In Memory of Sabir Ijaz

It is with profound sadness that I learned of the peaceful passing of my dear colleague, Sabir Ijaz, on 14 July 2026.

For almost twenty-four years, we had the privilege of serving together at the same university. In fact, Sabir was already a valued member of the institution when I joined. Our offices were side by side, and over the years, a simple yet meaningful ritual became part of my daily routine. Every morning, before settling into his own office, Sabir would stop by mine, greet me warmly, ask about my well-being, exchange a few words, and only then continue with his day. It was such a consistent and thoughtful habit that I would often find myself waiting for that familiar knock on my door. It is difficult to imagine those mornings without him.

My relationship with Sabir extended far beyond that of colleagues. His son is also my colleague, creating another cherished bond between our families at the university. More importantly, Sabir was an elder whose kindness, patience, and wisdom I deeply valued. Whenever life became overwhelming and I needed someone to listen, he was always there. He never hurried a conversation or dismissed a concern. He listened with genuine empathy, offering comfort simply through his presence.

Sabir also carried himself with remarkable dignity. He was always impeccably groomed - neatly dressed, his beard carefully trimmed, and every detail in place. His appearance reflected the discipline, self-respect, and quiet confidence that defined his personality.

His warmth, courtesy, and gentle nature touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. The university has lost a devoted colleague, his family has lost a loving father and cherished family member, and many of us have lost a trusted friend and compassionate mentor.

I will miss our morning conversations, his reassuring presence, and the quiet kindness that made ordinary days brighter. His memory will remain with me, not only as a colleague but as a noble human being whose small acts of kindness left a lasting impact.

May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdaws, and give strength, patience, and comfort to his family during this difficult time.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.
