Introduction
This article again refers to “housing”, the architectural, economical and philosophical aspects of which have already been discussed. In this article we will discuss the scientific and technological aspect (Architecture, Urban & Regional Planning) which however are not totally independent of other areas of the culture. As clear-cut diagrams and illustrations mean more than words for the engineer and scientist, the accompanying text may be considered a literary explanation of the important inter-relationship. A very simple text for the illustrations would probably not appropriately describe the total picture.
Housing in Rural, Urban and Fully-Autonomous Entities
In the following we will discuss the very basic questions of "housing" and describe the range of possibilities between the Rural Entity and the Fully-Autonomous entities, in the middle of which is the most widely practiced concept of Urban entity. Seen from a total perspective, the Urban entity is the subject as well as the object, because the actors in this system are not able to act freely as they are bound by the compulsions and dictations of economy. The actors are forced to act in the way as they do because the system does not allow any other alternative. And: the actors in the system don’t even realize that they are not acting of their own but actually are being acted upon !
The complexity of the urban infra-structure has reached its technological climax, the innovativeness of which is marginal. Should the human organism be laid out in the manner which corresponds to modern industrial way of production, i.e. with highly differentiated functions, it would require a space of more than 10 cricket fields. This example amply describes the limitations of the so-called development. It is in-effective, wasteful, ruins the environment and leads to over-exploitation of resources.
Dubai as a metaphor of out-dated construction techniques is suitable with its fantastic design-results at all levels and without any logic. The model therefore is: A major destruction of environment and misuse of resources is taking place through short-term investments and the mis-use of foreign labourers, who are even happy and not aware that they are actually contributing to destruction of their own traditional cultures. The transformation actually reflects a successful implementation of a totally-outdated economic system, which becomes possible only when the state actors do not realize their mistake and it is characteristic of the ruling elite.
The terminology used in the illustrations enable us to imagine what is coming and to develop a point of view over it. The "new" is actually not really new, rather it has developed parallel to the existing system without being noticed.
In the existing system, generally named as Urban Entity (UE), there are hardly any logical repairs possible in the system as these under the garb of "Problem Solutions" actually represent a "Problem Deferment"!. Solutions have to be judged according to their making sense because, not everything that can be accomplished also makes sense! Infact, only the least will make sense. The sense is actually made when a self-restriction is imposed. “Luxury” in this sense would be the voluntary sacrifice of the available and restriction of the consumption!
Terms like “Sustainability”, “Resource Protection”, “Environmental Protection” are empty words, as long as they are not filled with logical content, they do not remain without influencing the existing system and the relevant behavior and way of life. “Renewable Energy”, is another empty term, which suggests something, which is scientifically nonsense, because energy actually cannot be renewed (see: Law of Conservation of Energy). At the most, it can be transferred (energy change). In this way we can also explain another phenomena related to the educational sector: The number of educated persons does rise with the increase in population and holders of academic degrees but not necessarily the number of intelligent persons!
Continuous creation of newer models in Marketing of products is a waste of energy and resources. This also refers to sectors, which appear far from the industrial background, namely the health sector, the educational sector etc. In totality these measures are actually a mountain of income generating measures. The residents of an Urban Entity are forced to submit to these measures. In the past when the total number of participants was very limited,, the system still functioned on the limited scale but its deficiencies become immediately evident when applied on a global scale.
Urban Life today means:
- expensive living,
- high density of residents per square kilometer,
- increasing infra-structure costs with increasing productivity of the individual, who
works on more efficient machines
- sinking tax income through uniform and global production (the individuals are
exchangeable, when the same thing is produced globally),
- higher water consumption,
- higher energy consumption,
- increasing environmental pollution,
- increasing social problems,
- unhealthy way of living, etc.
The more affluent here can equalize some of the problems through their purchasing power, but they are actually part of an old system and actually live on the cost of the general public.
The technology therefore needs to avail literary and philosophical help in order to clarify things otherwise it will continue to confuse problem-deferment with problem-solution. It is necessary to prefer voluntary self-restraint over the income generation!
Conclusion
The article can go into more depth in professional literature, where it reaches mostly the specialists. In case of a holistic approach, there are apparently unimportant remarks regarding other areas, which may normally appear not to belong to the subject area, but are helpful in understanding the total picture by the reader. The article about "Autonomous Entity” points out information about a closed system or hides behind new ideas (for example the Zero and Plus energy houses). The transportation system points to the Flettner Rotor in the context of mobility and water and the Savonius Rotor in the context of Energy Transfer.

Blu-ray Player by Toshiba
Having had to put down HD-DVD behind it, Japanese Consumer Electronics giant Toshiba is planning to launch a Blu-ray player by the end of the year. Compare Plato's Concept with Now
As per Plato every thing in the world should be given its appropriate place. Biologically human body can be divided in three distinct and incompatible parts. Wisdom comes from head; stomach is responsible for distribution of calories to the whole body through intakes; hands and feet work for the body and act as guards. Humans die when this appropriation is disturbed. Head cannot act in the place of stomach or hand and vice versa.
Like human body he classifies the state population. The philosophers work as head, businessmen, presents and technicians work as stomach and soldiers and administrators work as arms and legs. If one of them takes the place of another, it will be a gross imbalance. With that the state shall fall sick and ultimately die. If each is at its own place, the state will become ideal.

Samsung's Portable Hard Drive Spinpoint N3U
Portable hard drives are dime a dozen, and there are already many players available in the market currently. Samsung aims to be at the forefront with their most recent release, the Spinpoint N3U which will incorporate a native USB controller on its printed circuit board. This optimized design will ultimately result in a much smaller foot print, alongside a greener solution with less power consumption and optimized performance that makes it suitable as a portable external storage device. In fact, the 1.8″ Spinpoint N3U is able to hold up to 250GB worth of data, storing up to 125 Gigabytes per platter. While the majority of other external hard drives will require the addition of a bridge circuit board to convert the hard drive’s PATA interface into a USB interface, Samsung’s latest N3U drive with its native USB interface will do away with the need for such a bridge board. According to Choel-Hee Lee, vice president of marketing Storage System Division, Samsung Electronics, “The new high-capacity 1.8” 250GB drive enhances Samsung’s product offerings and is ideal for consumers who require a small form factor, high capacity data storage. It is easy to carry around and it is designed to withstand a free fall drop of up to 50 centimeters and be resistant to a maximum shock incident of up to 1500G.”

Sony Ericsson’s C905 Camera cum Bluetooth
We just got a heads up from one of our AT&T ninjas and it appears as if an AT&T-branded version of Sony Ericsson’s C905 could be hitting AT&T just a few weeks from now. This, if we’re not mistaken, would be AT&T’s first 8 megapixel cameraphone trailing behind T-Mobile. While the photo we have received shows the front-facing video camera intact, we have our doubts whether that will make it on the final shipping AT&T version. The actual release we’re told is July 19th but you guys know by now that could be as solid as gelatin. Specs look to be unchanged from the standard SE version and here’s a loose recap:
* 8 megapixel auto focus camera with Xenon flash, 30fps QVGA video recording
* 240×320 resolution LCD
* GSM/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA
* Bluetooth
* Wi-Fi b,g
* AGPS
All in all a pretty solid camera-first-phone, but that price whatever it ends up being will obviously be the real determining factor.

Naked Girls Plough Fields in India For Rain
Friday, 24 July 2009
"Farmers in an eastern Indian state have asked their unmarried daughters to plough parched fields naked in a bid to embarrass the weather gods to bring some badly needed monsoon rain, officials said yesterday.
Witnesses said the naked girls in Bihar state ploughed the fields and chanted ancient hymns after sunset to invoke the gods. They said elderly village women helped the girls drag the ploughs.
"They (villagers) believe their acts would get the weather gods badly embarrassed, who in turn would ensure bumper crops by sending rains," Upendra Kumar, a village council official, said from Bihar's remote Banke Bazaar town.
"This is the most trusted social custom in the area and the villagers have vowed to continue this until it rains very heavily." India this year suffered its worst start to the vital monsoon in eight decades, causing drought in some states." {Reuters}

The Bride of Butrint
Pervaiz Munir Alvi
Caught between the lake and the sea
Like a heart struck by dueling passions
Above the cascades of the mountains
Known forever to men high and low
Stands the old bride of Butrint;
Where shepherd boy and his goats
The village men in their shaggy coats
Oblivious of her once glorious past
Wander through the ruins that last
Below the walls of old Butrint;
Gone are Greco-Roman mighty kings
Turkish guards and precious things
Stood where once fair sopranos now
Sound of mid-day silence sings
Farewell to the bride of Butrint;

Google Introduces Google Maps Directions Gadget
Monday, 20 July 2009
Google on Tuesday introduced a Directions gadget that will let webmasters add customized Google Maps directions to their Web sites.
"With the directions gadget, you no longer need to type and update multiple sets of text directions," Julie Zhou, an associate product marketing manager at Google, wrote in a blog post. "Let's face it: customers are only looking for directions from their specific location."
Webmasters can "pre-fill" the "To" directions field with one or several addresses. Customers can then type in their starting address and print out walking, driving, or public transit directions with one click. The gadget will also provide suggestions for vague "from" addresses.
Have a family Web site and want to help people navigate to your home from the airport. You can use simple tags like "Grandma's House" rather than your exact address to make it easier.
The gadget is available in 23 languages.

Development of micro projectors for handsets,
Taiwan-based Foxlink has stepped into the development of micro projectors, and the company is currently developing the products in cooperation with a handset client from Europe, according to sources with Taiwan handset makers.
Foxlink has sent related samples to the client for verification, which may pave the way for small shipments in the fourth quarter of 2009, the sources noted.
International brand vendors, including Nokia, Samsung Electronics and Apple, reportedly all plan to launch handsets with built-in micro projectors by the end of this year, indicated the sources, adding that Foxlink is likely to benefit from the emerging trend due to its strong business relationships with Nokia and Apple.

Rains Come to Pakistan

A day and night long monsoon rains have left 28 people (later updated to 33+) dead in Karachi and other areas of Southern Pakistan and washed away infrastructure, including at least two bridges.
170mm rain has been recorded in the past 24 hours. Atleast one newspaper is claiming it to be the record rainfall in 30 years (I am unable to verify the claim). Anyways, as always what was supposed to be blessing of nature has once again became bad news. Electricity supply across the city lies in shatters as circuit breakers started tripping with first drops of rain. Atleast two bridges in Karachi have washed away and several homes lost their roofs and walls besides the loss of 28 precious lives.

On Wagha Border
A lion cant be asked to greet other animals with a smile neither a dove be urged to fight the falcon. Each department of the state has a particular role and the efficiency lies in fulfilling it upto the highest level on the other hand criticism without understanding the spirit will mar the spirit and create confusion.Let the defenders of the country do their job. Strength and vigor is something inherent with the spirit of fighting and should not be mixed with hatred. In any disciplined army valor and sacrifice, even from the enemy is always respected and in the Pak / India wars there have been numerous citations about acknowledging the bravery of some brave combatant from the other side. On the same Wahgah there are numerous occasions when the sweets and smiles are exchanged between the two forces a gesture of goodwill.
Let’s not deprive ourselves with an excellent show which brings out the best of chivalry from both the sides. If the false hate analogy persists than we may have to ban even the cricket matches played between the two countries as they too reflect the spirit of competition upto the highest level which may be termed as disgusting.

Karez System in Balochistan
Balochistan is scarcely populated, mainly due to its daunting arid geography. It includes the mountainous country separated by intervening valleys. Balochistan receives very low rainfall annually. But innumerable natural springs known as "Karez" and streams are found in most of the areas.
The ancient Karez system is comprised of a series of wells and linking underground channels that uses gravity to bring ground water to the surface, usually far from the source. Originally ancient towns used to depend on the streams and rivers nearby into which glaciers in far-off mountains used to feed. As the time passed the glaciers gradually shrank over the centuries, the streams they fed likewise diminished, resulting in less water flowing downwards. Then people ingeniously created the Karez to draw the underground water to irrigate the farmland. Wells begin at the base of the mountains along the contours of the hillside. To keep the underground channels unclogged, two men and a draught animal work as a team - one man is lowed down to clear the tunnel and buckets of mud are hoisted to the surface by the animal. The tunnels slope less than the contours of the geographical depression, so that the water reaches close to ground level. The water in Karez will not evaporate in large.
This technology that originated in the Chinese deserts west of the Himalayas is also commonly used in the highlands of Balochistan, although with some minor modifications. Though it is not known how it reached here. Small water channel that are built along the hill gradient for maintaining the proper gravity flow of water are found in Balochistan in many places.
The Karez irrigation systems rely on gravitational pull and are comprised of simply a water source, underground tunnels, and vertical shafts that feed the water scarce areas. These irrigation systems are owned and operated wholly by the community. Some work is being planned on to re establish the Karez irrigation system at the sub-tehsil level.
The ancient and social water supply system can be reactivated for obvious reason: To improve the socio-economic status of the people of Balochistan, by helping them realize the importance of the Karez system and facilitate self-help activities for rehabilitation of the same; to identify and understand ground water irrigation system deficiencies and the causes for its abandonment by the community; to re-instil a sense of confidence in the Karez system among local communities; to protect, excavate and extend the Karez system in the other areas; to incorporate a delay action mechanism in the Karez system and to check the dam for efficient groundwater recharge; to train community leaders in the efficient operation and management of Karez.
Cleaning of Karez is considered collective social responsibility and people work for it on self-help basis (like bhall Safai in Punjab). Once there existed a large network of these Karez's in the province. The system has very low operational cast, it not only fulfils daily need of usage of water but also irrigates orchards and supply water for cultivation. We should try to keep the system alive. These are social streams as well.

Top 50 Gadgets in Last 50 Years
Friday, 17 July 2009
We're living in the golden age of the gadget. Don't believe it? Check your pockets. Odds are you're carrying a portable music player, an electronic organizer, a keychain-size storage device, a digital camera, or a cell phone that combines some or all of these functions. And you'd probably be hard-pressed to live without them.At PC World, we'd be lost without these things. We don't merely test and write about digital gear, we live and breathe the stuff. In honor of this raging gizmo infatuation, we polled our editors and asked them to name the top 50 gadgets of the last 50 years. The rules? The devices had to be relatively small (no cars or big-screen TVs, for example), and we considered only those items whose digital descendants are covered in PC World (cameras, yes; blenders, no). We rated each gadget on its usefulness, design, degree of innovation, and influence on subsequent gadgets, as well as the ineffable quality we called the "cool factor." Then we tallied the results.
After a lot of Web surfing, spreadsheet wrangling, and some near fistfights, we emerged with the following list. Some items in our Top 50 are innovative devices that appeared briefly and then were quickly consigned to museums and future appearances on eBay, but whose influence spread widely. Others are products we use every day--or wish we could.

Cover the Earth

Early pastorals along with their small groups of domestic animals used to move from one place to another in search of food and water. Such regular live stock movements prevented overgrazing of the fragile plant cover. Shepherds living in northern mountain of Pakistan (called Gujjars) and those living in Cholistan or Thar still move from one place to another. Beyond their movements, overgrazing is another foremost cause of desertification in different parts of the country.
Increasing human population and poverty contribute to desertification as poor people are forced to overuse their environment in the short term, without the awareness or affordability to cater for the long-term effects of their actions. In Pakistan, the consumption of fuel wood and timber is a major practice that contributes to deforestations, which in turn accelerates desertification.
Loss of productivity increases poverty, loss of biodiversity and forces internal and or cross-border migrations of people and wildlife. The reduction in plant cover that accompanies desertification also affects domestic animals, agricultural crops, and speeds up soil erosion by wind and water.
As vegetation cover and soil layer are reduced, rain drop impact and run-off increases. Water is lost off the land instead of soaking into the soil to provide moisture for plants. Even long-lived plants that would normally survive droughts die. A reduction in plant cover also results in a reduction in the quantity of plant nutrients in the soil, and plant production drops further. As protective plant cover disappears, floods become more frequent and more severe. Desertification is self-reinforcing experience. Once the process starts, conditions are set for continual deterioration.

Your Cup of Coffee
Espresso or coffee espresso (a concentrated coffee beverage brewed by forcing very hot water under high pressure through coffee that has been ground to a consistency between extremely fine and powder) consumption has grown tremendously in the last decade or two all over the world particularly in urban centers. You cannot walk more than a couple of blocks without seeing espresso shop – they are found everywhere. Preparation of espresso requires an espresso machine. Latest trend is that people are buying espresso machines for homes as well. What is better than a professionally brewed espresso right at home? These machines have already become household itemsThe best way to brew a cup of coffee is to force the water through the coffee with pressure that comes from heating water inside a sealed vessel. As a result of the high pressure brewing process, all of the flavors in a typical cup of coffee are concentrated. That is what.
Technology gives an easy-to-use interface that lets users make espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, and tea all from one machine that grinds, tamps, and brews gourmet coffee. It is really simple; the pump-driven frothing device dispenses steam in three different directions to make it easy to steam and froth milk for cappuccinos and lattes. The wand also dispenses hot water for making hot drinks and soups. You can even adjust the fineness of the grind, the level of coffee brewed, and the amount of coffee that is used to make every cup from 6 to 9 grams of ground beans per brewing cycle.
What else, I should be brewing coffee with espresso machine rather than writing this.

Digital Divide
Thursday, 16 July 2009
As per the latest tech literature, Robot "is a virtual or mechanical artificial agent". In practice, it is usually an electro-mechanical system which, by its appearance or movements, conveys a sense that it has intent or agency of its own. The word robot can refer to both physical robots and virtual software agents, but the latter are usually referred to as bots.” Robots have come a long way since Hisashige Tanaka (1799–1881) created an array of extremely complex mechanical toys, some of which served tea, fired arrows drawn from a quiver, and even painted a Japanese kanji character.Analysts and trend watchers say the day is not far when robots will be more pervasive and this interaction between men and machines will have visible impact on society. Spanish scientist have carried out a study to find out the possible influence of robots on society in times to come. The study concludes that the vast automation potential of robots and their capability to interact with humans will cause a technological divide over the next decade or so between those who have them and those who do not.
There already exists major technological divide. Fact is that over six billion computers have been sold till date. Every one living on this Earth would have one if they were evenly distributed but they are not. Same way, the pervasiveness of robots is going to increase the gap even further. This gap needs to be bridged. How you think that is possible?

Power for Travel Gadgets & Gear becomes Portable
One of the nuisances of traveling with technology is all the chargers and adapters we drag along to keep our gadgets running. Gadget guy Phil Baker reviews some new ways to stay charged up on the road. One of the positive trends is that many devices—including cameras and mobile gaming devices—now use either a mini-USB or micro-USB connector.
Between the device and your computer, only one cord is necessary, with no additional adaptor required.
A computer or an adapter rated at 500 miliamperes typically charge at similar rates. Alternatively, travelers can bring along a charger in which the connecting cord can be swapped out to work with different electronics.
However, as my recent trip to Asia proved, there are plenty of devices that require specialized chargers: I had oodles of cords and adapters to charge my MacBook, iPhone, Bluetooth headset, new Palm Pre, and external batteries and cases with built-in batteries

High Profile Jobs
This is what happened to a business graduate who had toped at the Oxford: When the student came out of the convocation hall, he was first greeted by his family and friends. Later, he started getting offers then and there: One businessman said, "I congratulate you on your brilliant success. I will be pleased to make you part of my concern. Your salary will start at £ 50, 0000.00 per month . . ." An automobile manufacturer was about to open his deal when a shipping tycoon drew the attention of candidate to himself and started, "We are too pleased on your success. My company wishes to have you on monthly £ 50, 000.00 plus an apartment in a prestigious neighbourhood . . . "
Then came a beverages businessman who after congratulating him put the price tag of £ 75,000.00 monthly, accommodation where ever he wished in London and a car for him and another for his family. Moreover, he was told about one month annual break any where in the world on the company's expense. The candidate accepted the offer!
A senor citizen with his wife was passing by the site who after hearing this "auction" remarked, "This is a new kind of slavery. Now capital is taking over intellect." His wife added, "No. This is not colonialism by needs and wants and not the wealth."
Another young man who was standing nearby commented, "If this is a slavery of needs and wants then it is being perpetuated since beginning of the humanity." The winning candidate over heard all these comments and started moving out to meet these people. He could not do that. They had already gone.

Gondrani Cave Dwellings
Thursday, 9 July 2009
Ancient cave civilizations are found in many countries of the world. In Pakistan also, some cave dwellings have been found at a place Gondrani (or Roghan Shar or shehr-e-roghan) in Balochistan province of Pakistan.
Photo of cave houses found in Gondrani, Pakistan.Who Built These Caves: As with several other historical sites in Pakistan, there is some dearth of exact knowledge on to who built these caves. In the absence of exact archaeological knowledge there are atleast a couple of theories and myths about who built these caves. One of these theories sounds like a possibility to me and the other one seems like a myth but I will let our readers decide on whichever version they want to belive in.
(1)According to first theory these caves were built by the Buddhists in 7th century A.D. Reference to this claim are found in a book called ‘Al-Hind, the making of the Indo-Islamic world’. In this book there is a chapter called ‘The Frontier of Al-Hind’. An exceprt from this chapter goes like this:
In effect, at eighteen kilometer north west of Lasbela (now called Bela), at Gandakahar, newar the ruins of an ancient town, are the caves of Gondrani, and as their construction shows these caves were undoubtedly Buddhist.
This theory seems more reasonable as the presence of Buddhists in this area is also documented by Sir Thomas Holdich in these words:
“After Alexander’s death, one of his generals, Seleukas Nickator, became ruler of central and Western Asia. For many centuries after this, nothing can be traced about the history. In early seventh century the ruler of Armabel (present Bela) was a Buddhist Somani. Chach usurped the throne of the dynasty of Sindh and marched to Bela in 636 AD. Chach was cordially received at Bela and was impressed with the loyalty of the people of Bela.”
Notes:
(1) Brahman Chach was the ruler of Sindh in 7th century A.D. Lasbela at that time was part of a state called Gandava and was governed by a Buddhist.
(2) Colonel Sir Thomas Hungerford Holdich, (1843-1929) was an English geographer and president of the Royal Geographical Society. Among other achievements, he is credited with extensive surveying he did in Balochistan.
Another reference about possible Buddhist connection of Gondrani caves comes from the Imperial Gazetteer of India as follows:
The caves at Gondrani, north of Bela, hewn out of the solid conglomerate rock and possibly of Buddhist origin; and the highly ornamented tombs at Hinidan and other places, affording evidence of a system of superterrene burial, constitute the more important archaeological remains in the State.
The above reference clearly talks about historical Buddhist influence in the area around present day Bela therefore it is very likely the caves of Gondrani were built by Buddhists in the 7th century A.D.
(2) According to second theory which is more like a local myth goes like this:
Legend has it that this was the city of a nameless king during the reign of King Solomon. The king had a beautiful daughter, Badiul Jamal, who was tormented by six hideous demons who attempted to carry her off. Seven heroes came to her rescue, but all died trying to save her. Then prince Saif-ul-Muluk ride into the scene, vanquished the demons and won the princess.
It is interesting to note the myth/story of Saif-ul-Muluk in this area as well as hundreds of kilometer in North along river Kunhar. It also shows the persian influence in this area. The characters of Saif-ul-Muluk and princess Badiul Jamal come from an old Persian folktale of a prince and a fairy.
How to Get There: These caves can be reached by Karachi-Quetta Highway N25 - formerly RCD Highway. The city of Bela is located at kilometer marker 175 from Karachi.
Few kilometers north of Bela, a dirt track goes towards left (north-west). The caves are reached after a few kilometers of travel on this dirt track. The total distance of these caves from Bela is between 15 km to 18 km. The dirt road leads across a stony waste past several scattered huts to a small stream, across which is the opening of a narrow gorge whose sides are packed with hundreds of cave houses.
The map below shows the location of Gondrani as compared to major highways in the area as well as in comaprison on Hingol National Park. M8 is the Rato Dero-Gawadar Motorway, N10 is the Karachi-Iran coastal highway and N25 is the Karachi-Quetta highway.
The Construction Features of Gondrani Caves: These caves are built in several levels. Walkways connect together the caves. The houses are generally one small room with hearths and wall niches fore lamps. There are also some with a veranda infront. The ceilings are all darkened from wood smoke.
GPS Coordinates for Gondrani Caves:
Latitude: 26.3978
Longitude: 66.2261
The Hope: My hope is that Government of Pakistan or any other research organization conducts proper archaeological survey of these caves. The exact year of their building needs to be determined along with declaring the caves a protected area/state park to save them from getting defaced, vandalized or political grafiti which is bound to come with increased tourism.

George Carlin's Views on Aging
'How old are you?''I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.
You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.
'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . You become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony .YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!
But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're just a sour-dumpling. What' s wrong? What's changed?
You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.
But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!
So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.
You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!
You get into your 80's and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST 92.'
Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. 'I'm 100 and a half!'
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!
HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them.
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

PC Operating System by Google
Wednesday, 8 July 2009
Google has taken direct aim at Microsoft’s core personal computer software business, with the announcement of a PC operating system to rival Windows.
The system, based on Google’s Chrome web browser, is designed for all classes of PCs, “from small netbooks to full-sized desktop systems”, and will be available in machines from “multiple” PC makers in the second half of next year, the company said.
Google also promised that the new software would solve many of the frustrations felt by users of Windows-based PCs, from slow start-up times to threats from computer viruses.
Google’s venture into the PC operating system business caps a steady move into software that has seen it encroach on to Microsoft’s turf. As well as a series of internet-based applications to rival Microsoft’s Office suite of software applications, those moves have included the Android operating system for mobile handsets and, last year, the Chrome Web browser.
Pushing those initiatives to their logical conclusion, Google said it would now extend Chrome to become a full PC operating system.
A number of PC makers had already started to explore using the open-source Android software on low-priced netbook computers – the fastest-growing category of PCs – and the announcement of the Chrome OS replaces that with a purpose-built piece of software that the company said would be better suited to PCs.
“We hear a lot from our users and their message is clear — computers need to get better,” Google said in a blog note posted late on Tuesday in California.
Among the main attractions promised for the Chrome OS is much faster “boot” time to give users instant access to their e-mail and web browsers. That echoes a wider challenge to Microsoft from other software makers who have also targeted the slow start up times of PCs.
In other veiled attacks on the Windows operating system, Google added that users “want their computers to always run as fast as when they first bought them”, and that they “don’t want to spend hours configuring their computers to work with every new piece of hardware, or have to worry about constant software updates.”
Microsoft has faced considerable criticism over the slowness of its Windows Vista operating system, though the next version of its operating system, Windows 7, has already drawn good reviews for working far faster, particularly on low-powered, cheaper machines such as netbooks.
Google said the Chrome OS would first appear on netbooks in the second half of 2010, and that it was announcing the software now because it had already started discussions with hardware makers that wanted to use it in some their machines.
The new software, based on the so-called kernel, or core, of the open-source Linux operating system, had been designed to run Web-based applications such as those developed by Google itself, the company said, making it the first PC operating system developed from scratch for the internet age.
In another attack on one of the main pillars of Microsoft’s business, Google said developers would be able to write applications for the Chrome OS using standard web development tools – a challenge to Microsoft’s own developer tools business.

The FZ28 is a fantastic halfway house between professional and consumer cameras, great for those that want to take a proactive approach to snapping but don’t know every trick of the trade. The iA (Intelligent Auto) mode makes everything easy; its various features combating hand shake on your part or movement of the subject. It can detect faces in the frame, the brightness level of the light and new to the FZ28 is AF Tracking which helps you keep a subject in focus even when you’re constantly moving.
Manual operation is just as fluid and smooth, the mechanical shutter ensuring minimal smearing and distortion effects and the joystick helps you operate everything with minimal fuss and effortless ease. The kit itself is top quality, a 27mm wide angle Leica DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens with 18x optical zoom, great for getting close to your subject (as near as 1cm away) or for taking a step back and snapping a stunning wide-angle shot.
