Cultural Roots of Art and Architecture of the Punjab

THAAP is launching Conference 2013 on “Cultural Roots of Art and Architecture of the Punjab.” Prof. Pervaiz Vandal will talk about ‘Geography and Culture’ and Mushtaq Soofi will give presentation of Loss of the Punjab's Identity; A Historical Perspective’ on the occasion on on Mar 10, 2013 to mark the launch.
Pervaiz Vandal is an architect/educationist working in Lahore since 1965. As a pioneer in the field in Pakistan, he has advocated a Nationalist centric approach as opposed to the Euro-centric approach in teaching of art and architecture. He has taught at the leading Institutes of Art and Architecture education in Lahore, and helped found the Department of Architecture and Design, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, at Islamabad and Lahore, which is now moving towards a Faculty of Art and Culture. Along with Professor Sajida H. Vandal, he authored the book ‘The Raj, Lahore and Bhai Ram Singh’.
Mushtaq Soofi is a poet, writer, media person and music producer. He is currently working as Director Programmes at Sachal Studios, Lahore. He has served PTV (Pakistan Television Corporation) as programmes producer, programmes manager and controller programmes. He has published seven books of poetry and prose in the Punjabi language and writes weekly column for the daily ‘Dawn’ which appears every Friday. He is the President of Pakistan Punjabi Adabi Board, and Member of the Boards of The Punjab Arts council and The Punjab Institute of Language and culture, Lahore.
