Flood 2010; nothing will make me forget you

Sajini Chandrasekera

Heavy rains poured the grounds for weeks
Flooding the villages and cities to it's peak
Homes washed away and families torn apart
Death toll raising while thousands were homeless

All the life time belongings were washed away
Leaving rich and poor helpless and in pain
Have faith in your hearts as GOD knows your pain
Have courage to be strong and to raise again

You are not alone in this my dear friends
We all feel your pain and your sufferings
Let us all help you to stand again
And may the traces of pain vanished again

Thanks for feeling this and sharing. This reminds me of Flood 92 when I saw a woman sitting on the heap of rubble and picking up thing and sorting them out. I wrote about it in my book Izhar.

@ Javed...This was written for FLOOD OF PAKISTAN 2010, when a dear friend of mine shared pictures done at this disaster. Hope and pray that this kind of disaster will never occur on this planet earth again. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

Wonderfully written Sajini as always!
Natural disasters are the worse. And it leave much brokenness and pain behind. Tsunami in Sri Lanka comes mind. But we get back up, pick up the pieces and keep walking. Human heart is much more than we give it credit for; Much stronger and very resilient.

@ Masha Wickramasinghe....
Thank you for your lovely comment. Natural disaster can happen to any one at any time. And the major disaster we as sri lankans faced was the tsunami. It took more than 40, 000 lives alone in this country and after 7 years we have stood our selves back again as a country and as a nation.
