Use of Social Media

Should use of social media (blog, tweet, facebook, chat, you tube, Flickr, the list is endless ) be allowed at work or not? This seems to be the question being discussed across the World Wide Web. This question forms the basis for my next article for print media.
In more connected (read developed) countries, analysts think that businesses as well government agencies should engage people with Web 2.0 applications, examples of which include Facebook, the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia and video-sharing site YouTube.” They think that interactive media provides unprecedented opportunities to get the real time feedback and fresh opinion. Given still low tech local corporate environment, people responsible here still think it is waste of official time.
What you think? Your opinionated comments are solicited.

A good idea indeed. I am sure without even allowing it officially, already almost all users of the net do engage in the activity as it allows them to collect new ideas and how other people are solving similar problems.
