Wooden Helicopter

Innovations and inventions started from the Chinese in older days and are going back to them. A twenty year old Chinese farmer, Wu Zhongyuan, built a helicopter for himself. The material used by him to build the helicopter is totally indigenous. He has made use of wood from an elm tree, a motorcycle engine and steel pipes. The helicopter's engine is 150cc. The blades are wooden and the structure is made from steel tubes. The trial flight took the helicopter to the height of 800 meters. It took Wu Zhongyuan three months to build the helicopter and cost him around US $ 1600.00.

Wu Zhongyuan did not have any formal education in aviation or aeronautics. He claims to have made use of his knowledge of Physics he learnt in his middle school. Wu Zhongyuan will not be able to fly his helicopter as the government has stopped him from doing so for safety reasons. The effort made by Wu Zhongyuan will certainly many others to follow him. It's now only a matter of time, following Wu Zhongyuan, we may soon find cheaper helicopters coming up in the market just like cars.
