Pak Blogsphere - Top Ten Blogs - 2007

Dr Farrukh Malik

Like last year (1, 2), Light Within has asked bloggers to point out to Top Ten Posts and Top Ten Blogs in Pakistan blogspheres (2007). Series of posts have come in. Here is the first one.

It is very hard to choose the top ten posts and blogs is Pakistani blogsphere when we do have so many good places to visit and read the original content. In an attempt to make it easier for me I am examining the blogs on criteria that comprises of three main points. Those three points are as under:

1. Regularity/Activity
2. Content
3. Impact

Having this thing in my mind I tried to search the blogsphere. The blogs I searched and viewed for the ranking purpose are picked up from bloggers.pk since it is the main repository of blogs of Pakistani origin. In my survey following blogs came to my notice as top ten blogs:

1. Teeth Maestro
Teeth Maestro is one original blogs around. If we will check this blog on the criteria I have fixed to judge, this blog is one of those blogs that use to get updated almost every day and after this emergency situation, it even gets updated every minute. As for as its impact is concerned, in wake of emergency, this blog has emerged as a valuable source of information regarding Pakistan. When all the other media channels are silent or curbed, this blog provides us credible information.

2. Pakistaniat
Founded by Adil Najam, this blog is a place where one can always find something original to read. This blog again is regularly updated with dedicated posts by the contributors on regular basis with original content. It's preaches the idea of freedom and well being of all the stake holder since the theme of this blog is a famous poem by Faiz Ahmed Faiz (i.e. Hum dekhain ga). The posts on this blog generate a great deal of discussion among its readers and readership figures are quite high with this blog.

5. Buzzvines
They claim it as a place where you can have your say. The level of interaction this blog offers is very much advanced where you can start a buzz/post by registering with them. If you are not a registered user, you can still comment on the content posted on this blog. The material available with buzzvines is original and they appear promoting the citizen journalism. Since they have a good number of individuals as team member, the blog gets update often and with a huge impact on netizens.

6. Thatta Kedona
This blog is with a very kind motive of promoting the indigenous dolls and toy industry in Pakistan. It is a unique place that offers a glimpse of rural Pakistan and gives an insight of lives of puppeteers and toy makers. It is updated regularly, the content is original and it has a lasting impact since it tends to promote this industry consequently helping these puppeteers and toy makers.

7. Jahane Rumi
Raza Rumi is natured writer, be it Pak Tea House or Pakistaniat, he keeps good care of his readers. His personal blog is Jahane Rumi where he use to write about a range of topics but his particular interest on this blog is Sufism. It is a blog that speaks about the political scene in Pakistan with original content. This blog is doing well for sometime. It gets update regularly; the content is original with a good deal of impact. This blog has gone a step further by showcasing the bloggers by interviewing them.

9. The Pakistan Policy Blog
Though still a new blog in Pakistani blogsphere, it is a regularly updated place with very powerful and original content. This blogs focused on domestic and international policy issues in Pakistan. The regularity, content and its impact makes it one of the top blogs in my point of view

10. Creative Pakistan
This blog/webpage is a place where you will find the fresh and visually appealing websites/blogs of Pakistani origin show cased. The content on this page is visual but it is a very good place where one can find lots of very good web pages and can in fact take inspiration out of them. The thumbnails use to get updated frequently. One can submit any site he feels like worthy of submission but its board use to review the submitted sites manually before publishing them. This place one of its kinds.

Shoot them down, or favor them for the final list comming at the end of the year.

In the absence of any technical and automatic criteria, this is the best anyone could do. Good post Dr. Furrakh.

Bloggers and readers should leave comments with reasons and identity. That is how they can be counted and considered for final selection.

Wow Atta list. I fully agree with it. But my recommendation is that Chowrangi.com should come first, and then Pakistaniat, and then The Pakistani Spectator, and the rest should follow.

Shirazi, this is a good series indeed just like the interview series of TPS. :)

Hello,
very nice effort... and time consuming tooo... its not easy to set some criteria and judge alot of sites accordingly... wel done brother... :)

As i went through all the blogs and posted comments and found them related to textual blogging... but i would like to bring your attention to Creative-Pakistan.com a totally differnet site as the author acknowledged with "This place one of its kinds."

You can see the fresh pakistani designers work with their skills... site has already grabed its enough targeted audience as PR, backlinks and feed shows...

Creative Pakistan, giving a quick look at the work by Pakistanis. I think its good, encouraging and appreciating. Also one gets to know random new Pakistani websites which have sometimes interesting content e.g. www.beautiful-pakistan.com one of sites I checked out form there etc!

Its definitely something different and fresh as compared to many bloggings, one needs a break from the usual dicussions of politics and current affairs!

Way to go!!!
