For me blogging started as a leisure and casual pursuit and now it has become part of my day job, creative activity and a way for socialization. I started my first blog in November 2004 as a showcase of my published work. Soon weblogging become a resource for my newspaper columns.

I have a few goals in front, though they keep changing: valuable feedback that clears my own outlook for whatever I happen to be thinking of writing. My posts usually carry embedded questions that ask for answers. Readers come and some of them write valuable comments, shooting my ideas down out rightly or substantiating them with their own experiences and knowledge. Sometime people also email their replies. Besides ego boosting, this helps me to look on the subject at hand from different angles; from different perspectives.

Lastly, I think one of my goals is promotion of blogs in this part of the world. I have subscribed to different alerts that keep me updated about technical developments and what people are talking about in ever growing blogsphere. Through my multiple blogs, I keep pointing out to new blogging platforms, new blog search engines and directories and other "cool" things bloggers like to have on their sites in addition to urging my friends and students to start their own blogs.

Besides painless self promotion, financial gains (in more than one ways) are also one of the goals I am pursuing here. Though I am still far from being a pro!

At 11:26 AM PKT, Alina said...: Do I actually have one? If I do, then that is updating daily to keep in touch to myself and world, bloogging or non blogging. I am still far from that, especially since Blogger is against me right now in what photo publishing is concerned :) I would also say an important goal is to improve my blogs, to write about more meaningful subjects, to write in a better, challanging way, to start conversations with my writings... But basically it is all driven by a need rather than a goal.

1. Primarily to ensure that I am on RECORD (on my blog) as to (usually) NOT believing governments' 'official' version of events. [i.e. questioning authority]

2. My secondary and an important goal is to piss-off as many Extremists Mullahs, Globalists, Neocons, Bush & Co supporters as I can.

3. Highlight attention to what I consider important issues and feel passionate about.[eg. as co-founder of DONT BLOCK THE BLOG campaign]

4. Promote the Pakistani perspective (blogging voices) on the internet. [as co-founder of Bloggers.Pakistan]

5. If by a miracle, my blog gets popular and consequently I am able to earn some money off of it..then use that money to promote my anti-globalist drivel (via advertising) to further piss-off the powers that be. And also implement my secret plans to promote the majority (sane) voices of Pakistan in the mainstream media.

6. To hopefully continue to be introduced to very interesting and wonderful people (bloggers mostly) from around the world (such as yourself Shirazi).

Now I am running two blogs that reflect not only my dual career interests (communications and education), but my deep-seated interest in networking with like-minded people all over the globe.

I enjoy showcasing other bloggers. And from time to time, I do a little self-promotion of my writings, but it is subtle.

What's more important to me is facilitating conversation and thought. I also try to be consistent in moderating my site because I value my readers.

My blog is not oriented in one direction it is a combination of a little of this and that.
However if nothing else came of it I did learn some things about myself that I never realized.

It has opened up a whole new world for me. A world of awareness and I am greatful for that. I have met so many people from around the world and learned so much from them and I am so greatful for their friendship and kindness of helping me to understand their way of life and their customs. Something that I never would have been able to do without the blog.
I am becoming more confrontational and more politically opinionated then I have ever been before.
I have learned so much more from other people then I have ever learned on the news and it has made me aware that the news is not always the place to get the right information.
The blog has become a learning process for me.
Somewhere there is this phrase, "Seek and ye shall find".
There is still so much to learn. I have far to go.

Now I think it has more to do with just connecting to the world at large, giving me an outlet for any idea that I have.

I will say that I am much more aware of how I am going to be seen through my blog. I have not deleted any past content but I have certainly considered it.

As for goals, I don't think I really have one. But I have been blogging since mid-2001, so I think it would be kind of weird and a bit sad that after all this time, I still don't have goals for this hobby.

I guess my main goal is to try and fulfill the use of blogging for my life as much as possible. Blogging has been therapeutic and the opportunity for me to be able to make friends from all over the globe. I think you are the only person who has taken a study about blogging so deeply. To be honest, I wasn't sure about it, but it was because I was too busy being the subject of this task and not really looking at the 'sociology of blogging', like we discussed before.

Blogging has also helped me learn about my commenters, see how they react to the posts that I make and also partake in discussions that could arise from various topics. It has also helped me shape my blog entries in order to get my personal message across and how to get certain reactions in return. I would also take it as a goal to learn more about the commenters as time passes, and not to see them as 'characters behind a computer' but also as people who are trying to fulfill the purpose of blogging as much as they can as well.

The last goal I want to fulfill for blogging is to try to be part of the bunch that thins the line between the 'impersonality' of technology and the humanity of it. Blogging alone has opened a big door for that, and I would love to be part of -- or at least, be witness to -- that revolution.

Blogging Goal is to make a difference in Pakistan, one day to be remembered as someone who did something, and why not in this new form of citizen journalism

It actually turned to be so that showcasing turned into creating and now blog has bigger emphasis on her writing than her previous book and magazine writing. Blogs give visibility and therefore create more opportunities than ordinary channels. Blogging channel is also faster, because traditional writing relies heavily on contacts and self-promotion. With blogging, search engines seem to be doing most of that.
